Extended Q&A

You mentioned the risk of temporary infertility to ewes pre- and post-tupping on red clover. Is this the same for cattle?

We are unaware of any issues in cattle and haven’t seen any papers on this.

When are we likely to see RedRunner available to the market?

It has started the regulatory process and once this is gained we will upscale seed production, so five to six years all being well.

The savings on N fertiliser in the trial data was based on 200kg N/ha. Is that a practical and realistic potential reduction in N fertiliser?

Yes, we have organic farms utilising clovers and growing over 12t DM/ha, so with good management it is possible.

Sodium stimulates sugar production in ryegrass. Will it do the same with red clover?

At this point, we haven’t undertaken the research needed to definitely answer this question. Moving forward, it’s something for Germinal Horizon to consider in its ongoing research efforts.
