IGA Sheep Conference – 23rd May

The Irish Grassland Association will host their annual sheep conference in Kells, Co. Meath on Thursday 23rd May.

The format will be similar to previous years with an indoor conference in the morning followed by a farm walk in the afternoon. Speakers will include Mairead McGuinness, MEP, who will discuss how the EU perceives Irish family farms. Also speaking is Miriam Parker. Miriam will discuss efficient handling units and considerations before building or renovating existing set-ups. A panel discussion will focus on labor use and efficiency on sheep farms. The afternoon session will be a farm visit to John Brady who runs an 1100 ewe flock with a further 250 ewe lambs. John also contract rears 50 dairy replacement heifers, finishes 50 Friesian bulls & fattens 60 cull cows.
