      Crimson clover

Crimson clover has the capability to fix nitrogen at soil temperatures above 8°C but is less effective over the winter period.

Crimson clover seed is suited to earlier sowing in July/August to maximise warmer temperatures. It is also quicker to establish than longer-term clover seed.

Crimson clover is ideal for usage as green manure for soil improvement.

      ACRES Scheme

      • For ACRES, a mixture of at least two crops from the prescribed list must be sown
      • Crimson clover cover crops must remain in place until after 1 January
