Mustard
Mustard is a rapidly growing annual that will help reduce nitrogen leaching and also suppress weeds.
- Sowing rate: 8-10 kg/ha
- Sowing time: Sow from mid-July up until 15 September if sowing for ACRES
- Frost tolerance: Low, but this helps in its incorporation as it will be largely diminished over the winter
- Biomass: Good
- Pests & diseases: Generally not a problem, but clubroot could become an issue if brassicas are used as a cover crop over a period of years

- The following table presents the full list of prescribed catch crops permitted within the ACRES scheme.
- In ACRES, a mixture of at least two crops from the prescribed list must be sown.
- Mustard cover crops must remain in place until after 1 January.
