      Forage rye

      Extensive and deep rooting so excellent for soil conditioning. Forage rye is effective at reducing nitrogen leaching over the winter.

      • Sowing rate: 60-75 kg/ha
      • Sowing time: Sow from mid-July up until 15 September if sowing for ACRES
      • Frost tolerance: Good
      • Biomass: Good
      • Catch crops: Catch crops options
      • Pests & diseases: Monitor at establishment for leather jackets, slugs and frit-fly. Generally not a problem once established.

      ACRES Scheme

      • The following table presents the full list of prescribed catch crops permitted within the ACRES scheme.
