      Phacelia

A rapidly growing cover crop, Phacelia will reduce nitrogen leaching and suppress weeds, with a beneficial root structure.

      ACRES scheme details

      • For ACRES, a mixture of at least two crops from the prescribed list must be sown before 15 September.
      • Phacelia crops must remain in situ until after 1 January.

      Ask an expert

Please make sure to ask an expert if you would like any advice about grass and forage production.

        Sowing rate: 4-5 kg/ha

Sowing time: Sow from mid-July up until 15 September if sowing for ACRES

Grazing: Light grazing permitted after 1 January

        Frost tolerance: Poor

Biomass: Lower biomass than many other cover crops, but it works extremely well as part of a mixture and the recommendation would be to sow it with other cover crops

Pests & diseases: Generally not a problem.
